Comsys ADFs protecting the Brisbane City Center during huge underground rail project.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line in Brisbane Australia. It stretches from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills and includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and the central business district. The project also includes 4 new underground stations. The Cross River Rail is a critical public transport infrastructure project which will remove bottle necks and improve the commuting for South East Queensland’s growing population.

The construction of the tunnels will commence in 2021 and require digging and boring directly under the city centre. Large tunnel boring machines, tunnel fans and pumps are the largest loads during the construction phase and all of these loads are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. The Cross River Rail will be passing very close to some of the most sensitive buildings in the CBD, including several hospitals and The Brisbane / Gabba Cricket Ground. For this reason, there has been a strong focus on power quality already from the start of this project, with very strict limits on harmonic levels.

Comsys, together with our Power Quality Partner for Australia, Supreme Technology & Energy Solutions Australia Pty Ltd., worked together with the project management from the CIMIC Group and the Contractor EMS Mine Site Electrical / JLE Group to make sure the active harmonic filters were sized correctly to comply with the strict power quality demands. 19 pcs of the The ADF active harmonic filters ADF P300 were delivered in time for project start and are now ready for operation.
